Brunei Methanol Company Sdn Bhd (BMC), in collaboration with The Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC), organized a Health Campaign on the importance of Occupational Health and Safety Hazards for its Employees and Contractors. JPMC has been very active in promoting occupational health to other organisations and BMC is very thankful for the collaboration. This health campaign is also part of the BMC’s activity for 2015.

According to International Labour Organisation and World Health Organisation Joint Committee, Occupational health is the promotion and maintenance of the highest degree of physical, mental and social well-being of workers by preventing departures from health, controlling risks and the adaptation of work and people to their jobs (ILO / WHO, 1950).  JPMC was thus delighted to provide a presentation, in aims to raise the awareness of Occupational Health among employees, and to stress its importance in maintaining a safe and healthy environment in workplaces.

The event was held at the BMC Head Office and was attended by BMC CEO, Takayuki Miyamoto, as well as Executive Management members, Head of Departments and BMC staff and contractors. The event was initiated by the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by opening remarks from Ak Danny Pg Tajuddin, Head of Marketing at JPMC. “We are honoured to be invited to Brunei Methanol Company Sdn Bhd for this event,” said Ak Danny. “Due to the nature of the work at this company, with heavy machinery operations, loud background noises, technical work as well as office work, it is important that workers and contractors are aware of the importance in Occupational Health, and of possible work hazards.”

The presentation was then delivered by JPMC’s Senior Medical Officer in Occupational Health, Dr. Nayake Balalla, who focused on the occupational health and safety hazards of office workers, as well as general health, safety and environmental issues, and an overview of JPMC’s Occupational Health services. In this way, JPMC is able to assist employers in maintaining a healthy and productive workforce, as well as a safe working environment in their workplaces.

After the presentation, there was a showing of an interactive video, and a question and answer session where BMC employees and contractors raised any concerns and discuss matters regarding occupational health with our qualified Senior Medical Officer, Dr. Balalla.
