WILDLIFE AWARENESS ROADSHOW TO SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN TUTONG DISTRICT

Brunei Methanol Company Sdn Bhd (BMC), with the collaboration of Wildlife Division, Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) organized a Wildlife Awareness Roadshow for Secondary Schools in Tutong District, as a continuation from the previous roadshow which had been conducted at Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School last April 2016.
 
As part of their CSR’s outreach program and to support the Ministry’s vision in promoting eco-tourism in Brunei, the collaboration between Brunei Methanol Company and the Wildlife Division, MPRT has been ongoing since 2013, as it is significant to inculcate and promote knowledge to younger generations and the public on the conservation and protection of the wildlife species in Brunei Darussalam which is also in line with the theme “Love and Care for Our Nation’s Wildlife”.
 
This year the program is to be conducted to all the 7 secondary schools across the Tutong District, which will be divided into two phases.
 
For the second phase, 108 students and teachers from Sixth Form Centre Tutong, Tanjung Maya Secondary School, Sayyidina Othman Secondary School and RIPAS Secondary School, including the officers from the Department of Schools, Ministry of Education (Tutong Branch) are invited.
 
Present at the event as the Guest of Honour is Yang Mulia Awang Shahminan bin Haji Tengah, Acting Chairman of Tutong Municipal Board.
 
The event started off with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat; which was followed by a welcoming speech by Daud Hj Jais, BMC Deputy Chief Executive Officer as the Co-Chairman and the showing of a short video clip.
 
A powerpoint presentation was made by the officers of the Wildlife Division to introduce the division’s role and function, legislation and enforcement as well as the National Sea Turtle Management and Conservation Program, along with a presentation by Biodiversity & Natural History Society (BruWild), a very active NGO in giving wildlife education to schools throughout the nation, a presentation by Haji Mohd Husini bin Bakar from Brunei Birders Enthusiast and another presentation by Awang Muhd Daud bin Abdullah @ Jungle Dave, an environmentalist from the Naturalist Eco Tourism Guide.
 
A quiz session was held and the Guest of Honour presented prizes to the winners as well as tokens of appreciation to the 4 invited principals.
 
The Guest of Honour along with the invited guests also had a chance to view the mini exhibition displayed by Wildlife Division, Jungle Dave, PTE Tutong Wildlife Club, tour operators and Biodiversity & Natural History Society (BruWild), a non-governmental organization (NGO).
 
This collaboration is expected to continue for the next two years, to achieve a nationwide awareness to every secondary school in Brunei Darussalam.
