The Brunei Darussalam methanol plant project today received a visit from the Sungai Liang Authority (SLA). The seven-member delegation was headed by the Chairman of SLA, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Kerma Raja Pengiran Haji Kamarulzaman bin PPSDSB Pengiran Haji Ali. SLA is the authority that was established by the Government of His Majesty, to provide a one-stop service to tenants and investors operating within the Sungai Liang Industrial Park (SPARK).

The aim of the visit was to view the progress made by the Brunei Methanol Company (BMC) in the construction of BMC’s methanol plant. Present to welcome the SLA delegation was Mr. Kinya Tsuji, the Chief Executive Officer of Brunei Methanol Company and other senior members of the Company.

The methanol plant is scheduled for completion by end of the year, with commercial operation targeted for April 2010, after the plant’s commissioning.  Once fully operational, the plant will produce 2,500 metric tones of methanol per day. Methanol is a commodity chemical produced from methane found in natural gas. The methanol plant project is will usher in the dawn of a new major industry in the country.

The visit started with a safety presentation by BMC personnel, followed by a presentation updating on the plant construction progress that the Company has achieved so far. The visit ended with a tour of the plant’s construction site.
