Then, it followed with presentation update of methanol plant construction and doa selamat after which the guests of honour together with invited guests witness the commencement of installation of Methanol Super Converter and a short tour to the methanol plant construction.

As one of the vital component in the methanol plant, the Methanol Super Converter (SPC) is a simple heat exchanger type reactor composed of more than 1114 double concentric tubes. Its main function is to accommodate for the synthesis reaction, converting reformed gas into crude methanol. This synthesis reaction itself is generated by the Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company Limited, Inc. licensed catalyst which is partially filled up in the annular space between the SPC’s inner and outer tubes.

In addition to the production of crude methanol, the SPC also recovers the heat generated in the methanol synthesis reaction by transferring this energy to heat up water, thus creating medium pressure steam which is then used in the reforming reaction upstream of the SPC. Such heat recovery through steam production is beneficial for the plant and environment as it means that the load on the boilers can reduced thus less fuel gas is used and less emissions are produced.

Today event, mark another milestone achievement in the construction of Brunei Darussalam Methanol Plant construction. The delivery of the Methanol Super Converter through beach landing in Sg Liang beach took place on the 6th May 2009.

BMC will start with its pre-commissioning activities soon as the Brunei Darussalam Methanol Plant mechanical completion is due at the end of 2009.
