On 24 June 2022 , Brunei Methanol Company Sdn Bhd (“BMC”) organized a voluntary blood donation campaign in collaboration with Laboratory Services Department of Suri Seri Begawan Hospital, Kuala Belait. The campaign took place at our very own First Aid Room.
This was an effort initiated by HSD, echoing the World Blood Donor Day theme this year “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives”. Several pre-donation screening measures took place before the donors could donate their blood to confirm whether the blood donation was safe for both the donor and future recipients.
It was a successful event, which saw a total of 28 BMC employees and 26 BMC contractors who came together rolling up their sleeves for this noble cause and successfully donated their blood. We managed to collect up to 54 pints of blood, and we hoped that this campaign will continue to create an awareness amongst our employees and contractors on the importance and benefits behind regular blood donation.

Pre-donation screening measures by the Laboratory Services Department officials before being called and invited to a donation chair. It involved performing a short health examination of taking the participant’s pulse, temperature, and blood pressure. This is followed by taking a drop of blood and testing it to see if the blood iron level is sufficient for donation purposes.
