It was with great pride that on 26 November 2024 BMC celebrated 10 million manhours without lost time injury (LTI) and Health and Safety Day at the Rizqun International Hotel, Songket Ballroom.
Present were Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Hj Khairuddin bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Deputy Minister of Finance & Economy (Economy) / BMC Deputy Chairman, as the Guest of Honour. Other distinguished guests included His Excellency Maeda Toru, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam; YangMulia Pengiran Haji Jamra Weira bin Pengiran Haji Petra, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Energy); Mr. Hideaki Akase, Director and Managing Executive Officer of Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. (MGC); Mr. Takayuki Miyamoto, BMC Chairman; BMC Board of Directors, shareholder representatives, regulators, industry stakeholders, and business partners.
BMC CEO, Mr. Jesús Enrique Mora Marín highlighted the collective effort behind this achievement in the opening remarks. He added, “This commitment not only protects our people but also safeguards the environment, our assets, and reputation, reinforcing our vision to be a world-class methanol supplier of choice.”
Mr. Hideaki Akase of MGC applauded BMC’s commitment to safety at all levels while maintaining stable daily operations. It was indeed a feat for BMC, having achieved this monumental safety milestone on 29 October 2024, ahead of schedule.
A key highlight of the day was the launch of BMC’s 12 Life-Saving Rules (LSR), officiated by Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Hj Khairuddin, who also unveiled a safety pledge. He commended BMC’s contributions to Brunei’s development, stating “As the first petrochemical manufacturing plant in Brunei, BMC stands as a model of how proactive safety practices coupled with close engagement with regulatory bodies can drive both business success and sustainable growth.”
Attendees enjoyed interactive exhibitions from BMC’s business partners who showcased the applications of the LSR in everyday operations, as well as complimentary health screenings. The event concluded with an award presentation by the guest of honour to six winners of the BMC Healthy Lifestyle Program (HLP): BMC Final Step Challenge 2024 x BN on the Move (BNOTM).
