BMC ORGANISES BEACH CLEANUP

In support of this year’s International Coastal Cleanup Day, on 1 November 2024, Brunei Methanol Company (BMC) organised a beach cleanup at Tanjung Batu Beach, bringing together BMC employees along with volunteers from Politeknik Brunei Main Campus and Green Brunei to play a part in preserving the natural beauty of our coastline.

We were honoured by the presence of His Excellency Maeda Toru, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam, Village Head of Kampong Sungai Liang, Yang Mulia Awang Mohammad Haszrin bin Bagol and BMC’s board member Yang Mulia Ahmad Fathi bin Dato Paduka Haji Junaidi.

This year’s theme #SeaTheChange – “Every bottle, every straw, and every piece of trash you clean can lead to a cleaner, healthier ocean” drove us to collect 116 bags of litter, weighing 966.9 kg, covering a large stretch of the shoreline and removing various types of waste that threatens marine life. 👏 Special commendations to the top five groups for their contributions to this effort!

This effort was part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy #RESPECT which emphasises on environmental protection and active community engagement, and also our Healthy Lifestyle Program (HLP) for this month.

In addition to cleaning up our beach, we are also taking a stand against environmental degradation and greenhouse gas emissions. By reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices, we contribute to the fight against climate change. Our actions today, no matter how big or small, help to reduce the carbon footprint and protect our planet for future generations.

Capturing moments of teamwork and dedication as every bottle, straw and piece of trash was cleared from our shores.

Congratulations to the top 5 groups for their incredible effort in collecting the heaviest loads of litter! Y🌍👏
