In support of Brunei’s National Climate Change Policy (BNCCP), we at Brunei Methanol Company came together on 12 November 2024 at Berakas Forest Reserve to plant trees, contributing to BNCPP’s goal of planting 500,000 trees by 2035 to increase local forest cover and reduce carbon emissions.
We were honoured to be joined by Yang Mulia Hajah Martinah binti Haji Tamit, Director of the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreational (JASTRe) as the guest of honour. Amongst those also participated were His Excellency Maeda Toru, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Brunei Darussalam and Yang Mulia Captain Basza Alexzandar bin Haji Basri, Acting Port Master of The Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam.
Together with our employees, youth volunteers, and Green Brunei members, we planted 100 saplings – building on the success of our September 2023 effort, where we achieved a 100% survival rate in the same location.
This tree planting initiative is part of BMC’s corporate social responsibility strategy #RESPECT, supporting our commitment towards low-carbon, climate-resilient business operations.
Our CEO, Mr. Jesús Enrique Mora Marín, aptly described this event as “This initiative is not just about planting trees. It is about nurturing life, restoring ecosystems, and contributing to a greener, healthier planet for future generations.”
Through volunteerism and support for national climate goals, we are proud to play an active role in advancing Brunei’s sustainable targets and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
