On 6 March 2023, Brunei Methanol Company Sdn Bhd (BMC) received an educational visit from the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Jefri Bolkiah, Kuala Belait led by Mr. Muhammad Musa bin Haji Maidin.
Attended by three instructors and 9 final year students of Higher National Technical Education Certificate (HNTEc) in Instrumentation and Control Engineering, the students had a fruitful and informative visit.
In the welcoming remarks, BMC’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Abdul Mu’izz bin Dato Paduka Haji Alikhan, emphasized the importance of witnessing first-hand application of instrumentation in the downstream industry.
The educational facility visit plays an important role in educating the students as learning something by seeing it in person is far better than just learning from the books. The students were energized, thrilled and excited in anticipation as they had an interactive session with the Operations team on an array of topics including the process, instrumentation and technology used in producing methanol.
The facility tour took the students to our Distillation Process area and Super Converter Reactor (SPC), where they were introduced to applications of level, flow, and pressure transmitters on site. It was then followed by touring the Centralised Control Room (CCR) for the Distributed Control System (DCS) operation and monitoring.
Educational visits alike can be of substantial benefit to the development of students to enrich their experiences. With the ever-growing importance of education and awareness in today’s world, BMC remains committed to youth development for future talents.
